The city faces a significant transformation with a focus on creating housing areas that are both functional and built to a high standard of quality.
The green areas, cultural history, and landscape values must form the foundation for future urban development. Housing must support an active and sustainable life.
Needs and challenges
The housing area faces a number of challenges, including:
- Housing development in Odense has so far been characterized by a focus on high building density rather than quality. In Odense C, we often see developments that do not meet the city's standards for both aesthetics and functionality.
- At the same time, there is a clear need for the city to address the climate challenges within the construction industry, which accounts for significant CO2 emissions and waste production. It is necessary to impose requirements for recycling and sustainability in the construction of new housing, ensuring that development goes hand in hand with the green transition.
Summary
Liberal Alliance desires a housing policy for Odense that ensures both private initiative and public responsibility. We want to promote a housing market that accommodates everyone—whether one prefers homeownership, rental housing, or mixed housing types. At the same time, we want to ensure that construction is sustainable, energy-efficient, and respectful of the city's cultural history. By simplifying planning and reducing bureaucracy, Odense can become a city that attracts both private investors and innovative construction companies eager to contribute to the city's development.

- Simplification: Make it easier for private investors to build in Odense by reducing bureaucratic barriers. Getting building projects approved should be fast and efficient, allowing Odense to create more housing that matches citizens' needs.
- Focus on sustainable renovations: Reusing existing buildings and materials saves both money and CO2 emissions. Renovation is a more sustainable solution than new construction and should therefore be a prioritized focus.
- Promoting diversity in housing options: Focus on a diversity of housing types and price points so everyone can find a home that fits their life situation. This entails a wide selection of owner-occupied housing, housing cooperatives, rental properties, and flexible housing formats—such as "tiny houses"—to meet the growing demand for varied ways of living.
- Ensuring nature and biodiversity protection in urban development: Transforming and densifying Odense requires taking responsibility for the ecological consequences. Urban development must not come at the expense of nature and biodiversity. All new housing projects should integrate green spaces and nature protection as a core element of their planning.
